James Bond has been on the silver screen since 1962, and now he’s returned in the new movie “Quantum of Solace.” With its intense action sequences and fast-paced story line, Bond is bound to leave movie goers asking for more.
The movie starts right where it left off in the 2006 flick “Casino Royale.” Audience members should watch Royale before seeing “Quantum.” It would definitely be worth it, because “Quantum” starts off right where “Royale” ends. Usually Bond movies aren’t really that interconnected, but these two flicks are definitely connected. “Quantum” even helps explain some things in “Casino Royale”, it even tells you what the name of the terrorist organization is in “Royale.”
I’m assuming people don’t care enough to go and rent “Royale”, so in short, Bond attempts to frustrate the schemes of terrorist financier Le Chiffre by defeating him at a high-stakes game of Texas Hold ‘Em. In the process, Bond falls in love with Vesper Lynde. The big twist in “Casino Royale” is when Vesper betrays Bond and leaves him confused.
Bond is heartbroken and immediately seeks revenge in the sequel. After a series of intense fights, explosions and other amusing events, he discovers the organization Quantum and one of its key leaders, Dominic Greene. Greene is an eco-activist who is actually planning on holding Bolivia’s water in a desert, which he purchased, and selling it back to the people of Bolivia.
Along the way, Bond meets up with a girl named Camille Montes, a Bolivian secret service agent who is seeking revenge for her family’s death. Then, through some events that were kind of unclear, he discovers the location of the man who killed Vesper and doesn’t kill him because he’s proving a point.
One of the dynamite aspects of “Quantum of Solace” is the action scenes. Action Scenes are quite enjoyable to the eye and also pleasing if you appreciate yelling in excitement. When Bond goes to find a suspected agent involved in Quantum, the man tries to stab him with a knife. Bond ends up grabbing the knife and accidentally stabs the man in the neck. Everybody knows a large amount of action equals a large of amount of entertainment.
A comical ingredient in “Quantum of Solace” is the fact that Bond accidentally kills people throughout the movie. Along with the knife fight, Bond “accidentally” pushes a man off of a three story building.
Beyond the amusing bits, there are definitely some terrible parts of the movie. The movie is missing a good plot. It’s basically missing a plot entirely besides the whole “revenge” idea, the only real theme in the movie. Throughout the whole movie, Bond is basically just killing people. Montes, the girl, also seeks revenge against an old enemy.
If you’re looking for a movie with a deep plot then I suggest you go to a movie like “Casino Royale.” I mean come on, it would help you better understand “Quantum” anyway. If you’re looking for a movie with fast-paced action, intense fights and explosions, I definitely suggest you watch “Quantum of Solace”.
