‘Twilight’ still a Hot Topic

Last November, girls of all ages across the country gave their lungs a run for their money screaming at the premier of “Twilight.”  With the newly released DVD, fans acted as though they had never seen the movie.

Hot Topic, a clothing store in West Acres mall, hosted a premier party March 15.  “Twilight” was scheduled to come out on the 16th, and Hot Topic began selling it the minute it was possible.  The store had more than 130 people show up to the premier.  The party was available to only those who had pre-ordered the movie, making it an invite-only party.

‘Twilighters,’ as they are called, purchased “Twilight” paraphernalia, took pictures with a cut-out Edward Cullen silhouette and enjoyed other activities the store hosted during the wait for the movie.  Movie and book trivia was played for candy to pass the time, and different drawings were set out.

The store was giving away the cut-out of Edward, two different posters from the movie and an autographed picture of Jacob Black.   Hot Topic, however, did carry a significant amount of posters fans could buy instead of banking on a win.

The amount of “Twilight” apparel and other items sporting the name in Hot Topic is almost obscene.  On the plus side, it’s a dream-come-true for the average, obsessive girl that wants to wear nothing else.  Nearly all the party-goers wore some sort of shirt and/or jewelry, proving their loyalty to the phenomenon.  Many girls wore shirts claiming “Team Jacob” or “Team Edward.”  It’s a girl thing.  The most common of all was the shirt quoting Bella’s words to Edward, “I dream about being with you forever.”

The movie and book have given young girls across the country a sort of hope that there will be someone just like Edward for them.  It’s slightly humorous that 10-year-old girls are now starting to look for someone to spend forever with.

The party itself was an overall success and the wait was well worth it.  A line from the store started forming around 10:30 p.m. that ran all the way back to the Sear’s store waiting for the movie’s release.

Hot Topic was under strict rules that the movie could not be sold before 12:01 a.m.  The process of just ordering and holding the movies was quite a job.  Each box had to be counted for how many movies they received, none of which could be sold before hand.

The store management and employees deemed the party a success and are anticipating future parties for the continuation in the saga.

Until that day, “Twilight” will be on repeat in the homes of young girls.  For now, those girls can give their lungs a rest until the next premier of “New Moon,” when the screaming fits will start up again.
