Beautiful floral designs, amazing tribal symbols and fierce animals are being seen more and more often on people’s bodies. People are becoming open-minded about body art.

Some people, however, still seem to be under the impression that tattoos are only for head-banging rock stars. However, the type of people who get tattoos has expanded. In shows like Miami Ink, a wide variety of people get tattoos, including everyone from moms to businessmen.

Tattoos have many purposes. For one instance, you can thank someone who has had a big impact on your life. They can be an obvious tribute, getting their face or name tattooed on you, or they can be obscure, an animal or symbol that reminds you of them.

They are a way to bind people together. Getting matching tats with your best friends or family is a physical link to remember one another no matter where each person ends up.

Tattoos show individuality. A tattoo expresses yourself by showing a part of your personality. Getting a particular animal or scene inked on your body is an awesome way show who you are.

If there is an event or experience in your life that has affected you then getting a tattoo is a great way to commemorate that. Also getting a tattoo of an individual’s religious views shows not only their support, but a part of who they are.

Sometimes people get tats to show what their passionate about, for instance, my cousin has a black stenciled runner on his ankle because running is his passion.

Body art is similar to a hair style, just permanent. They can add to any look, whether it’s edgy or artsy. Sleeves, where your entire arm or half your arm is covered in tattoos, looks amazing on some people and gives them an edgy look.

Tats are a great way of displaying a piece of art your particularly proud of by getting it tattooed on your skin. Sure it hurts a little, but it looks sweet.

Body art isn’t just something stupid kids get when their bored, nor are they just for drunken rock stars. They are for everyone who doesn’t mind a little pain to show who they are and what they believe in.
